The Best of Mansfield
Quiet, Leafy and Friendly
Mansfield is located eleven kilometres south east of the Brisbane CBD and covers an approximate area of 4.9 kilometres squared. It is surrounded by the neighbouring suburbs of Carina Heights, Carindale, Mount Gravatt East, Mackenzie, Upper Mount Gravatt, Wishart, and Rochedale.
Mansfield is also one of the three suburbs that were named after Queensland public figures around Mount Gravatt. It was named in 1967 after Sir Alan Mansfield who was Chief Justice from the years 1956 to 1966 and was also the Governor of Queensland from 1966 to 1972. The suburb’s western boundary runs along both Newnham Road and Creek Road, while its northern boundary runs along Broadwater Road. Part of Mansfield’s eastern boundary runs along the Gateway Motorway. Other main roads that run through the suburb include Mount Gravatt Capalaba Road, Wecker Road, Ham Road, and Pine Mountain Road. The suburb of Mansfield has quite an agricultural past, meaning it used to consist mostly of sheep grazing and dairy cattle.
A lot of the land was subdivided into seven to ten acre lots for farms during the interwar years. The neighbouring suburb, Mount Gravatt East, had its first primary school open in 1955 and a lot of the modern street layout in Mansfield was defined within the next ten years. Brisbane Adventists College opened their primary school campus in 1966 and their secondary campus in 1973 which combined together to create Brisbane Adventist College in 1999. As well as this, Mansfield State School was opened in 1970, followed by Mansfield State High School in 1974. A lot of Mansfield’s properties were originally built as government housing estates, however they have continually been replaced by more modern and more private properties and residences.
